What would be a cheap, fairly easy way to advertise a service?

Post your WANT. It’s like Craigslist, but reversed. And really different. At Ubokia, you’re the rockstar. Post exactly what you want and sellers respond to you. Only talk to sellers you choose.

Question by Charlie Bravo: What would be a cheap, fairly easy way to advertise a service?
A friend of mine is in photography—aside from word of mouth and business cards, she also has an internet website of her own.

Classifieds and the internet are some choices, but what exactly would you recommend? thank you.

Craigslist.org has a “services” section. She could post there regularly, and it’s free. I’ve found lots of stuff there.

She could try placing flyers/cards in places with lots of people who tend to hire photographers. For example, new parents like to have portraits taken, so maybe she could talk to the local baby clothes boutique. Also, weddings are big business so bridal shops would be a good target.

I think TheKnot.com also has a directory of wedding services. Might be worth getting listed in there.

Also, you can really improve word of mouth by mentioning to happy customers “if you know anyone who is looking for a photographer, I would really appreciate a referral.” Sometimes people just don’t think of it.

Advertising through Craigslist type of message boards is a good idea. Local classified for her area such as yahoo would also get more people. If I had a service I wanted as many people to know about as possible, I would use all resources including local classified papers, free web sites as well as my local paper. Combined with business cards, maybe some flyers posted and a web site, the service would get as much publicity as possible from all media types. Whole the computer is a good way to show her phography, some people needing the service may not be computer literate so use everything available.
