Figure out where your customers will be found (on the internet), then place yourself there.

If you have a product worthy of repeat business, and are able to present an “ezine” worth reading, develop a mailing list.

Acquire people to your list via any REPUTABLE means possible – website/blog/support forums/auctions/classifieds/search engines/joint ventures. Oh, and by submitting your own comments in response to popular blogs, and submitting articles to other ezines – being sure to include an appropriate tag line.

The best experiences I’ve had with marketing my sites was by doing the following:

1.) Search engine optimization (SEO)
You can create a site in such a way that the search engines “love” and put it high in the search results. You can do this by on-page and off-page optimization.

Key here is to find relevant, but not so competitive keywords for your target niche. Read more on this in my free ebook:

2.) Article writing and distribution. This one is great and I do it all the time. You simply write a good 500-700 words article on your topic and submit it to various article directories. You include a link back to your site in the “Author’s BIO box”, of course 🙂

This benefits you threefold: a.) you get direct visitors to your site from the article directory; b.) your article is usually picked up by other related sites that need content (they must include your “BIO box too!), so you get even more visitors from their site; and c.) this is the most important part… you get what’s called “link popularity”, which is a off-page SEO technique (refer to my ebook that I suggested you download).

3.) Forum advertising… you join as many relevant forums as you can and post relevant and helpful articles/comments there. Usually you’re allowed to put your web URL in the signature.

If you do this right, people will come by the 1000s! Really, I’m not kidding.

4.) Blog commenting is the last major thing I do. You simply search for relevant blogs and post relevant comments there. Most will allow you to include a URL to your site.

5.) A little bonus here 🙂 — What also works great are press releases via http://www.prweb.com (although I suggest you invest at least $ 40 in a press release, it works quite well with free ones too. It’s just important to write a good press release). You can get many tips for writing good PRs from the site I suggested.
